WINDOW MEASUREMENT SOFTWARE

Remote window measurements for your first quote.

A replacement job can mean ten windows of five sizes. Let the customer capture them on their phone, then measure frame width, height and sill height on your computer before you schedule a visit.

Why window quotes eat up site visits

A window replacement inquiry is rarely one window. To give even a rough price you need a count and a size for each opening, and the customer usually does not know them. Asking for tape measurements over the phone tends to bring back numbers that mix up glass, sash and frame.

So the usual answer is a visit: walk the house, measure every window, come back and price it. That is a lot of time for a quote that may not be accepted, and it delays the customer who just wants a ballpark.

With Sightimate the customer captures each window and you measure from the photos. You get a consistent set of preliminary sizes for the quote and keep the detailed measuring for the jobs that go ahead.

How it works for windows

  1. Create a job and send the link. One scan per window works best. The customer opens the link in the browser on their phone; there is nothing to install and no account.

  2. Guided capture, a few minutes each. A short calibration sweep and then guided photos. Scale is automatic, so no reference object is needed.

  3. Measure in the measurement workspace. Pick the frame corners, the sill and the floor, and read each length with its ± range. The screen prompts you to confirm points in other photos when it needs to.

Capture tips to pass on for windows

  • Capture from inside the room and include the wall around the window and the floor below it.

  • Avoid midday backlight. If the sun is straight behind the glass, close a curtain halfway or capture later.

  • Open blinds and move plants or curtains away from the frame edges.

  • Keep reflections in mind: corners and frame edges measure better than points on the glass.

  • For upstairs windows seen from outside, capture only what can be seen safely from the ground.

What you can measure, and what to verify on site

  • Frame width and height, between the visible edges of the existing frame.

  • Visible opening to the edge of the trim or the inside reveal, when the edge is clear in the photos.

  • Sill height from the floor to the top of the sill or stool, useful for egress and safety-glass questions.

  • Trim and wall space: casing width, distance to corners, and the space above the head for blinds or a header.

Sightimate is designed for preliminary quotes. The target is about ±⅝ in over a span of roughly 6½ ft (±1.5 cm on 2 m), and every length is shown with its own ± range.

Limits: check these in person

  • Rough opening. It is hidden behind trim and drywall. Treat any rough-opening figure from photos as an estimate.

  • Frame depth and wall thickness. Jamb depth and how the frame sits in the wall are not visible from one side.

  • Squareness and sill slope. Measure diagonals and check level on site before ordering.

  • Glass and condition. Glass type, rot and water damage need a closer look. Verify final dimensions on site before ordering or installing.

An illustrative measurement example

Take a kitchen window over a counter. In the measurement workspace you pick the four inside corners of the frame and read the width and height, then pick the floor and the top of the sill for the sill height. Each value comes back with a ± range, for example 47¼ in ± ⅝ in for the width. Illustrative values, not a customer job.

Repeat that for each scan and you have a window schedule you can price as a preliminary estimate and share as a report. If an edge is hidden or cannot be identified clearly, do not infer its position. Request another capture or leave that dimension for the site visit.

Window measurement questions

Can I get the rough opening from a scan?

Only as an estimate. The rough opening is hidden behind trim. You can measure the visible frame and trim, then confirm the rough opening on site.

Should my customer scan all windows in one go?

One scan per window is easier to measure and to review. Each usable scan result uses one credit.

Does glare from the glass cause problems?

Strong backlight and reflections make edges harder to see. Ask the customer to avoid midday sun behind the glass and to include the frame and wall around it.

Can I order windows from these measurements?

No. Remote window measurements are for preliminary quotes. Verify final dimensions on site before ordering or installing.

Which phones work?

Ordinary iPhone and Android phones, in the browser. The customer allows camera and motion access when asked.
